It’s obvious—we live in a culture that has been and is profoundly shaped by science. But, understanding how Christian faith—and its ancient biblical texts—make sense in today’s culture isn’t so obvious, especially to children and youth.

Science and biblical faith are two, different, ways of knowing experienced as compatible, even complementary, by many Christians, including many accomplished scientists who practice Christian faith. If such a harmonious view is possible for professional scientists, then it also is possible for our children. But, we cannot assume that they will know this intuitively. Such learning must become part of their discipleship.

Our mission, then, is to help our children and youth experience the harmony between science and biblical faith so that they will be fully equipped for Christian life. To do so, we must present children with:

  • an evolutionary understanding of God’s creation;
  • the distinction that science tells us how, but the Bible tells us why;
  • biblical knowledge that is grounded in sound theology and historical context;
  • regular experiences with faith and science “side-by-side”;
  • a well-informed faith that can stand the test of time and the advance of science and technology.

That may sound overwhelming, but that’s where the Discovery & Faith comes in. Read on to learn more about how we can meet this challenge together…
